I shot 2 spreads that were run in the first issue and the guys came back to me and asked me to shoot the cover for this issue. Having worked with the team previously, I was happy to shoot it and got to work with Zaff for the first time. Most of the Labb team were there in one guise or another.

The clothing for the supporting spread was provided by Oops. The internal spread features a number of their capes / ponchos / gowns and the shoot itself is a fun and tongue in cheek look at the fashion genre. The monochrome nature of the pieces and bold, boisterous linings give the spread a theatrical feel and I'm really looking forwad to seeing it in print. The current issue "Fashion Labb" is available to buy now through www.newsstand.co.uk. Texture Labb is available in May 2010.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.karlbaxter.co.uk/karl-baxter-blog/2010/3/5/shoot-of-sacha-james-blaq-ss10-collection-to-be-published-in.html"><rss:title>Shoot of Sacha James BLAQ SS10 Collection To Be Published in Supplementaire Fashion Issue, May 2010</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.karlbaxter.co.uk/karl-baxter-blog/2010/3/5/shoot-of-sacha-james-blaq-ss10-collection-to-be-published-in.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

I'm pleased to be able to announce that international coffee table glossy "Supplementaire" are running a 10 page editorial of mine in their fashion issue, released May 2010. The spread features one off pieces made of recylced and hard to find fabrics from fantastic designer Sacha James, modelled by Jemma Saare @ Adage. Hair and make up were provided by young make up artist of the year, Rebbecca Frances, with whom I've worked regularly over the last year.

The work is a step away from my previous published editorials in that I've used a lot more light and a lot more grain than usual to help with the summer feel. The work will be available online to view for free, or as a hardback periodical which can be bought directly from http://www.supplementaire.eu/. I've been pretty busy shooting, but I've also upgraded equipment.. cameras, computers, lenses and calibration stuff readying things for the new studio, which opens only a month from now. I've battled a bit with each new aspect, as you'd expect, but i feel I'm finally back on top of it all, so you can expect a bunch of new work to appear over the coming weeks. We, that is myself and partner in crime Simon Redgrave of Scholars & Warriors hung the first exhibition we've worked on together which featured my artwork rather than desig work yesterday at the drum in Birmingham, so again, expect some images. The Photography is effectively mixed media, so I'll be recreating the images for press and promo tomorrow to gear up for he official launch in a couple of weeks time.

Anyway, in the meantime, here's a couple of portraits of Sophie - a fabulous model and wonderful girl from Alan Sharman.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.karlbaxter.co.uk/karl-baxter-blog/2010/2/2/we-are-opening-our-new-photographic-studio-april-4th-2010.html"><rss:title>We are opening our new photographic studio April 4th 2010</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.karlbaxter.co.uk/karl-baxter-blog/2010/2/2/we-are-opening-our-new-photographic-studio-april-4th-2010.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>photography photography studio</dc:subject>

Last week I agreed a deal on a new studio space, close to my Stourbridge home.
Lou and I have been sat watching a bit of telly and got onto the desert island disks conversation. What surprised me about mine was the fact that this and cardboard box city came up from levellers.

I was and am a big fan of New Model Army and back in the day, late 80s, early 90s (very early 90s) the levs supported NMA regularly and had a lot more to say for themselves than they have in recent years... anyway, while i was rolling the years back and sat enjoying myself in my cosy lounge, it seemed an awful shame not to share.

If it wasn't for this music and this era, i'd probably have been pulling teeth and living in a suburban nightmare in North Herts.
This set of 'black and white' portraits are largely untouched, save for the conversion to black and white. There has been absolutely no cosmetic retouching or alteration of light and shadow. The only creative addition is a touch of grain to work with the monochrome conversion. The images were taken using a single strobe at around 7-8 feet, light was modified with a 7" reflector and 20 degree honeycomb grid. I tried in this series to simply capture raw emotion, May's strong yet delicate look is perfect for this style of aged treatment. More to follow.
